Yosef Levian
was born in Iran in 1942. At the age of eight he and his family moved to Jerusalem. Levian has loved art since childhood. He has been painting in oils, acrylics and watercolors since the age of thirteen. Levian worked in Jerusalem as
a cartographer, which along with his love of Middle Eastern

images influenced his work. A veteran of both the Six Day and the Yom Kippur wars, Levian has been a citizen of the United States since 1982. Levian believes there is no limitation to the imagination. Levian's subjects range from impressionistic landscapes and futuristic fantasies to scenes of Israel. His versatility provides visual excitement and a sense of fun. The warmth of his palette as well as his notably colorful style have been influenced by his experiences in the Middle East, his desire for peace and his love of nature and creation. His works reflect the richness and diversity of the different cultures in which he has lived. Levian's uninhibited use of color is seen throughout his paintings, in which there are many forces at work--a strong sense of his homeland, Israel; an attraction to the impressionistic style; a playful, fantasizing imagination; and a love of color.
